Hilton Worldwide Holdings is an American multinational hospitality company responsible for managing and overseeing a portfolio of over 6,500 hotels, resorts, and timeshare properties around the globe. The Hilton chain of hotels includes 22 brands, and it categorizes them into 5 categories: Luxury, Lifestyle, Full Service, Focused Service, and All Suites.
It’s Luxury category includes the Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts and Conrad Hotels brands. Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts is the company’s flagship brand, named after its flagship Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. The Waldorf Astoria branding is used for hotels that offer Hilton’s highest standards of facilities and service. Conrad was formerly the company’s flagship brand until it was replaced by the Waldorf Astoria brand in 2006. It includes 50 high-end luxury hotels in 21 countries. They are mainly located in large international business centres and some of the world’s richest cities, for instance the Conrad Hotel in Manama, Bahrain.
Hilton’s Lifestyle category of hotels includes the Canopy, Curio, Graduate, and Motto chains. Located mainly in vibrant neighbourhoods that feature popular shopping and local attractions, its Canopy brand includes signature beds with overhead canopy designs, large walk-in showers, and in-room espresso machines. The Curio Collection line of hotels is Hilton’s soft brand, meaning that the hotels retain their own individual branding, such as the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. Hilton’s Graduate chain of hotels is uniquely anchored in popular college and university communities across the United States and UK, including Ann Arbor, home to the world-famous University of Michigan. Motto by Hilton meanwhile, is a uniquely branded chain of hotels that features ergonomically efficient, compact room spaces that include bunk and murphy beds, connecting rooms, and free Wi-Fi as part of its common areas.
Hilton Hotels and Resorts and Doubletree by Hilton are the chain's Full Service category of hotels. These are targeted at business and leisure travelers, and mainly located nearby to major city centres, airports, convention centres and popular vacation destinations. Guests staying at these hotels can expect comfortable accommodations that often include on-site dining, fitness centres, meeting rooms, and in select cases, spa facilities and electric vehicle charging stations.
Within Hilton’s Focused Service segment, are its Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton by Hilton, and Tru by Hilton brands. Hilton Garden Inn hotels have been designed to provide upscale services in smaller secondary and tertiary markets. They often include larger more spacious rooms and dedicated on-site Hilton branded restaurants. The Hampton brand of hotels is among the largest franchises of hotels in the United States. It is moderately priced, for budget and midscale customers, and features limited services, but does offer a free hot breakfast for all customers. Tru by Hilton is a newer chain of hotels, established in 2016 to attract millennials and tech savvy guests on a budget. Located near urban and suburban centres, airports and highways, Tru hotels have limited food and beverage options but offer large lobby and common areas known as The Hive, for commingling with other guests.
Hilton’s All Suite hotels category includes its Embassy Suites Hotels, Homewood Suites by Hilton, and Home2 Suites line of extended stay and residential hotel options.
The Embassy Suites is a chain of all-suite hotels where each suite contains two rooms: one for living and working in, and one for sleeping. Its en-suite kitchens include microwaves and mini fridges. Each hotel location offers its guests free made to order breakfasts and hosts complimentary social receptions nightly. All locations based in the U.S. also include fitness centres.
Homewood Suites by Hilton feature residential style hotels with studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom options. Each includes en-suite kitchens with a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and stove top. Homewood Suites also offers free hot breakfasts daily including breakfast taco bars. It also has complimentary evening socials with beers, wine and snacks each Wednesday, and includes access to 24-hour fitness centres, and in some cases, outdoor pools and sports courts.
Home2Suites is an extended stay hotel that is targeted at leisure and business travelers. It includes studio and one-bedroom suites with kitchens that include a fridge, dishwasher, and complete table settings. It’s locations also feature access to fitness centres, outdoor pools and patios that include grills and firepits. The lobby area contains a free build-your-own breakfast station, and packaged foods perfect for taking with you while on the go.
One of the world’s largest hospitality operators, Hilton Hotels and Resorts has properties in more than 110 countries globally. It has a strong presence in most regions throughout the world, but its largest market is in North America, including thousands of properties within in the United States.
Hilton’s next largest market for hotels is within the Asia-Pacific region. It has been growing its market share here in recent years, particularly in China. Hilton also operates many Full Service properties in Europe, and several of its Curio Collection hotels can be found in Southern Europe, including De Bonart Naples.
Hilton has a significant number of hotels in South America, the Middle East, and Africa. However, these do not represent as significant a share of its operations as do other parts of the world.
